What do the Beatles, Shirley Bassey and Norman Wisdom all have in common?
They have all performed at the Globe in Stockton and an exciting new exhibition at Preston Park Museum will explore the Art-Deco, Grade II-listed theatre’s fascinating story.
‘Stockton Globe Encore: The Past, The People, The Place’ will bring together the Globe’s past alongside its exciting future as a 21st Century live music and comedy venue.
It will feature a virtual Globe tour giving visitors the opportunity to see inside the building as well as a film and photographs to portray memories of its heyday.
Stockton councillor Jim Beall said: “We have an incredible team of committed and enthusiastic volunteers who are giving up their time to record not only the ongoing restoration of this iconic building, but also its varied and intriguing history and heritage.
“This exhibition will bring this work to life and is a great opportunity to learn more about the Globe’s journey from an Art Deco theatre to a 21st Century live entertainment venue.”
The Globe’s restoration is benefitting from a £4.5m National Lottery grant secured through The National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Heritage Enterprise scheme.
The exhibition will run until Sunday October 6. Entry is free with museum admission.
