Festive celebrations will take place across Redcar and Cleveland this holiday season with Christmas lights switch-ons and Christmas markets making up the family fun.

The Redcar Christmas lights switch-on will illuminate Redcar High Street today (Thursday November 22) and there will be an evening of family entertainment including live music from a brass band and ‘The Rat Pack’ tribute act to classic crooners Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy David Jr.

There will also be street performers, seasonal stalls and lots of goodies to feast on leading up to the big moment at 6.30pm.

Loftus will be lit up on Friday November 23 at Market Place with the celebrations starting at 4.30pm and the lights being switched on at 5.30pm.

Marske’s fantastical Christmas lights switch-on includes a Santa parade, Christmas craft fair and carols in the square; all taking place on Thursday December 6 from 3pm with the lights being switched on at 5.30pm.

In Eston town centre, Father Christmas himself will attend a Santa Parade and Craft Fair on Thursday December 6 which will be the highlight of a special Christmas Market between 11am and 5.30pm with side stalls and rides open from 12pm. Children’s entertainment will take place between 3.30pm and 5.30pm with Father Christmas arriving at 3.30pm.

Cllr Carl Quartermain, cabinet member for culture, tourism and communications, said: “I’m looking forward to going along and getting that Christmassy feeling.

“With such a wide variety of events taking place across the borough, there’s something for all the family here in Redcar and Cleveland.
